Martina’s Sister Defects, Wants to Emigrate to U.S.
Jana Navratilova, the 23-year-old sister of professional tennis star Martina Navratilova, has defected from Czechoslovakia and wants to emigrate to the United States, a West German newspaper reported Saturday.
Jana Navratilova, accompanied by her fiance, arrived in Bonn from Austria on a tourist visa issued by the West German Embassy in Prague, Czechoslovakia, the daily Cologne Express newspaper and its regional Bonn Express edition reported.
The newspaper report said that Martina’s younger sister resembles the six-time Wimbledon champion and also handles a tennis racket well.
Martina, 29, became a U.S. citizen in 1981. She obtained political asylum in the United States in 1975 after a tennis match in New York.
