The City of Palm Springs initiated a formal study of last weekend’s disturbance by vacationing students that resulted in 530 arrests and an estimated $40,000 in property damage. The city also called for an as yet unscheduled “town hall meeting,” during which police, hotel owners, merchants and residents can discuss ways to avoid a repetition during next year’s Easter break. Officials estimate that the city spent $123,000 in police overtime pay and cleanup costs because of the disturbance.
