TEHRAN — A car bomb exploded in south Tehran on Wednesday, killing a 70-year-old man and injuring 17 other people, six of them critically, the official Iranian news agency IRNA reported.
Security sources said it blew up in a street of shops, 22 of which were damaged.
The news agency said it was the second bomb explosion in Tehran this year and blamed “counterrevolutionary groups backed by imperialist governments”--a term for opponents of the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.
Sixteen such blasts were reported in the capital in 1985.
