Seal Beach : Officials to Announce Choice as City Manager

City officials say they will announce who will be the new city manager at today’s City Council meeting, ending a search that began last October when former City Manager Allen J. Parker resigned.

A press conference to introduce the new manager has been scheduled for Tuesday morning. Dan Joseph, who was assistant city manager during Parker’s tenure, has been acting city manager since his former boss officially resigned Oct. 31.

About 115 people applied for the position, City Clerk Joanne M. Yeo said. The number was pared down to four final candidates. Yeo said she will be “glad when it’s all over” so she doesn’t have to keep candidate names secret.

Parker, who took over the post in 1981 after stints as the city manager in Compton and South El Monte and as general manager of a landscape architectural firm, resigned to take the city manager’s job in Half Moon Bay. He began working in the agricultural and resort community south of San Francisco on Nov. 4.
