WASHINGTON — Sen. Barry Goldwater (R-Ariz.) is recuperating at Walter Reed Army Medical Center after surgery to remove wires that were used during his two hip-joint replacement operations, his office said today.
A statement described the operation performed Saturday as “minor corrective surgery.” A spokesman said Goldwater, 77, is expected to remain at the hospital for seven to 10 days. The senator has announced he will retire at the end of the year.
