Angola’s UNITA rebels said Monday that they killed 81 government troops and three Cuban soldiers in attacks during which they captured the coastal town of Musserra, in northern Zaire province.

There was no independent confirmation of the capture. Angola’s Marxist government rarely comments on UNITA claims.

UNITA (National Union for the Total Independence of Angola), which has fought the government since Angola became independent from Portugal in 1975, said in a statement here that its forces overran Musserra on April 5.
