Dom Perno, who had become the focal point of widespread calls for a shake-up in the University of Connecticut’s athletic program, has resigned after nine seasons as the school’s basketball coach.

Perno, 44, compiled a 139-114 overall record but was unable to guide the Huskies to the NCAA tournament since the school joined the Big East Conference seven years ago. The team has not had a winning record since 1981-82.
