14 Arrested in Two-County Drug Sweep

Two El Toro residents and 12 other Southland residents were arrested in a two-county drug raid which netted 40 pounds of cocaine, $50,000 in cash and eight cars, including a Rolls-Royce. The cocaine has a street value of $3.5 million, police said. The raids, which were coordinated by Burbank police after a four-month investigation, began Thursday morning and were conducted in 12 areas, according to Burbank Police Lt. Joe Valento. Suspects were also arrested in Los Angeles, North Hollywood, Canoga Park, Azusa, Burbank and Rosemead. The El Toro suspects, arrested at 2333 Ridge Route Drive, were identified as Julio Ernesto Vergara, 33, and Kelly Laree Jackson, 21. Police said they confiscated 1.25 pounds of cocaine, three-fourths of a pound of marijuana, an automatic .380 pistol, $11,000 in cash, a 1984 Corvette and a 1982 Mazda sports car.
