The Vatican announced that it will send senior representatives to what it described as the first formal encounter between Roman Catholic Church leaders and Marxist scholars from Communist Bloc countries. A statement said a symposium on “society and ethical values” will be held in Budapest, Hungary, for three days starting Oct. 8. It will be sponsored jointly by the Vatican and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
