Ian Smith Reprimanded for Slur
From Reuters
HARARE, Zimbabwe —
Former Rhodesian Prime Minister Ian Smith was reprimanded today and made to apologize for “derogatory remarks” he made last year calling Zimbabwe’s majority blacks illiterate and uncivilized.
Parliamentary Speaker Didymus Mutasa also ordered the white leader to make a written statement within seven days pledging he will stop making any more denigrating remarks about the country and its people. Smith headed the former British colony of Rhodesia for 14 years before its independence as Zimbabwe in 1980.
