The Soviet Union overcame a U.S. team, 5-1, and Czechoslovakia scored a 3-1 consolation-round victory over Canada on the final day of the preliminaries at the world hockey championships in Moscow.

Neither game affected the playoffs, since Canada, the Soviets, Finland and Sweden already have qualified for the four-team medal round.
