South African-born Zola Budd still has to meet certain conditions before she can run for England in this summer’s Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Although she became a British citizen after her emigration from South Africa two years ago, the 19-year-old runner may not have complied with a Commonwealth Games rule, which stipulates that competitors need to have lived in the country they are representing for 6 of the previous 12 months.
Budd owns a house in England but has been a resident for only slightly more than three months since last July. She trains in South Africa.
