Culver City : Agency Condemns Building
The Redevelopment Agency has condemned an apartment building that it hopes to acquire by eminent domain so that Fire Station 1 on Culver Boulevard can expand.
The city wants to demolish the seven-unit building at 9730 Culver Blvd. to give the Fire Department more space, said Susan Berg, project manager for the agency.
The agency moved to acquire the property through eminent domain after the owners, Melvin and Lu Weiss, refused to sell. The final price offered to the owners will be resolved in court, which could delay demolition for months, Berg said.
In another action, the agency approved final construction plans by Goldrich & Kest Industries Inc. to build Culver City Royale, a 97-unit senior housing project on Overland Avenue near Culver Boulevard. The approval allows the company to apply for a permit to begin the project, which the city requires to be completed within 18 months.
