Malibu : 300 Get Degrees at Pepperdine
More than 300 students received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Seaver College, the liberal arts school of Pepperdine University, at graduation ceremonies Saturday morning in Firestone Fieldhouse on the Malibu campus.
John Gavin, who will leave his post as U.S. ambassador to Mexico in mid-May, and Lodwrick M. Cook, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Atlantic Richfield Co., received honorary doctor of laws degrees.
Gavin delivered the commencement address, telling the audience of about 4,000 that the two biggest threats to society today are international terrorism and illicit drug use. “We are gathered to celebrate this commencement in an atmosphere of peace when in truth, however, that is an illusion,” Gavin said.
