AND NOW HERE’S THE NEWS: So what’s keeping Mick Jagger so busy that he doesn’t have the time (or the inclination) to tour with the Rolling Stones this summer? Rumors have been rampant that Jagger has been in the studio with Daryl Hall, helping him with his new solo record. This much is true: The two will appear together on “Ruthless People,” the title song from this summer’s upcoming Disney film starring Bette Midler and Danny DeVito. Written by Hall and Eurythmics leader Dave Stewart, the new tune features Jagger with background vocals by Hall. The sound track (due out in early July on Epic Records) will also feature a new Billy Joel song (“Modern Woman”) as well as “Stand on It” by Bruce Springsteen (a B-side of last year’s “Glory Days” single) and “Wherever I Lay My Hat,” a 1984 Paul Young single that will probably be rereleased as a 45 after the film’s release. How did CBS lasso such a crowd of pop luminaries? Easy--the sound track’s musical supervisor was Hall & Oates manager Tommy Mottola, while the film is being executive produced by none other than CBS chieftain Walter Yetnikoff.
