Dominick Rivetti to Be Named Police Chief of San Fernando
San Fernando Police Lt. Dominick J. Rivetti, a 16-year police veteran, will be appointed the city’s police chief on May 5, City Administrator Donald Penman said Saturday.
Rivetti, 37, has been the acting police chief of the 32-member department since December, when Police Chief Charles E. Sherwood died of leukemia.
The City Council is expected to confirm the appointment of Rivetti to the $47,364-a-year post at its regular meeting, Penman said in a prepared statement.
The appointment of Rivetti follows a four-month nationwide search during which city officials considered 48 applicants, Penman said.
Rivetti, who lives in Canyon Country with his wife, Mardi, and their two children, Deanna, 11, and Ricky, 9, joined the San Fernando Police as a patrol officer in 1970. He became a detective in 1976, a sergeant later that year and a lieutenant in 1982.
Rivetti’s appointment comes at a time when city officials have allocated $2 million to build a new police station at First Street and Brand Boulevard to replace its current 30-year-old Macneil Street station.
