The World : Afghan Rebels Kill POWs
Afghan guerrillas have put to death at least 13 captured officers and two soldiers of the Kabul government army for being Communists, rebel officials said in Pakistan. They added that dozens of other prisoners from fighting in southeastern Afghanistan are on trial. The officials, who refused to be further identified, said the convicted prisoners were killed by firing squad in Paktia province, where Soviet and Afghan forces have conducted a major offensive.
