JOHANNESBURG, South Africa — More than 50 years after it was written, South African censors Friday lifted the ban on the late Henry Miller’s bawdy, autobiographical classic, “Tropic of Cancer.”
The Directorate of Publications in Cape Town announced that a review committee had found the book “not undesirable.”
The ban on another of the American writer’s books, “Tropic of Capricorn,” was lifted recently, but it cannot be lent by libraries or sold to people under 18. The directorate said it was considering similar restrictions on “Tropic of Cancer.”
