Iraq said it bombed the Iranian city of Kermanshah, inflicting heavy losses before returning to base. Kermanshah, which Iran has renamed Bakhtaran, is 250 miles west of Tehran and 70 miles east of the Iraqi border. Iran, meanwhile, said that its forces killed or wounded 4,000 Iraqis on the southern front of the 5 1/2-year war. Iran said that several Iraqi army units were overrun in a one-mile advance.
