Dow Plummets a Record 41.91

NEW YORK —
Stock prices plunged in active trading today and the Dow Jones industrial average took its biggest single-day point drop in history.
The Dow Jones average of 30 industrials closed down 41.91 at 1,783.98. The previous biggest drop was 39.10 on Jan. 8.
New York Stock Exchange volume was about 147.46 million shares compared with 148.77 million shares Tuesday.
