Salvador Plane Crash Kills 37

SAN SALVADOR —
A Salvadoran military transport plane bound for Panama crashed north of the capital moments after taking off today, killing all 37 Salvadoran military personnel on board, army and civilian sources said.
The U.S.-supplied C-47 aircraft crashed near Plan del Pino, eight miles north of the capital, at about 5 a.m. (4 a.m. PDT), authorities said. An armed forces spokesman blamed mechanical problems for the crash.
