Florida’s pharmacists became the first in the nation allowed to prescribe some drugs. Until now, a doctor’s prescription was required for head lice shampoo, certain cold and headache medicines and certain fluoride products for preventing tooth decay. Pharmacists now may sell such drugs without a doctor’s prescription. Physicians must still prescribe most other drugs, including those that require injection.
