Las Vegas Golf : Lohr Isn’t Impressed by 2-Shot Lead

Bob Lohr finished a round of seven-under-par 65 with birdies on his last two holes and took a two-shot lead Thursday in the second round of the richest tournament on the PGA Tour.

Lohr, 25, had a 36-hole total of 132--a feat that impressed him not at all. “After two rounds, with such a long tournament, the lead at this stage is insignificant,” Lohr said after making nine birdies on the Las Vegas Country Club course. “Even if I shoot 68 tomorrow, who’s to say that’s going to be leading?”

The format for the five-day, 90-hole Panasonic Las Vegas Invitational, which offers $1,150,000 in total official prize money and $207,000 to the winner, calls for the 156 pros to play one round on each of three courses before the field is cut for the final two rounds at the Las Vegas Country Club.

Mike Hulbert, Kenny Knox, John Cook and veteran Gil Morgan were tied for second place at 134.

Morgan, on the rebound from shoulder surgery, had a 67 at Desert Inn. Hulbert shot a 65 at Las Vegas. Knox, an upset winner of the Honda tournamente earlier this year, had a 67 and Cook shot a 68, both at Spanish Trail.

Another stroke back at 135 were Chip Beck, Gary Hallberg and Tony Cerda.
