Eurailpass and Frommer

Share

I am annoyed with the comments that Mike Moreau made March 23 concerning the Eurailpass when he was talking about Frommer’s guide. I have used the Eurailpass many times and I think it is the best pass around for traveling. You only need a reserved seat if the route you are taking is popular or if a train is all first-class; otherwise, you can sit anywhere as long as there is no reserved sign in first-class or second-class. I have traveled in the dead of winter and in the summer.

At least the trains are fast in Europe, clean and comfortable, unlike in America. I took a train from New York to Boston. There were only three cars and two conductors tripping over each other asking for our tickets. The cars were filthy and there was only a snack bar aboard that was inadequate. The restrooms were also filthy. It took us over four hours to reach Boston, the most miserable trip I have ever spent.

The Eurailpass and the train system in Europe are simply the best. It’s too bad America doesn’t follow Europe’s example. I think about the railroad men who laid the tracks in this country. They must be turning over in their graves.
