Politicking

Share

A Times editorial (April 9), “Law, Order and Gun Controls,” urged Congress to pay attention to many police chiefs and police unions who opposed gun control legislation then being considered by the House.

On April 10, a Times article, “Opponents Fail To Curb Bill to Relax Gun Laws,” was accompanied by a photograph of uniformed police officers engaged “. . . in protest on the Capitol steps . . .” in Washington. The article described that protest as, “. . . a dramatic display . . .”

It appears that The Times, in its enthusiastic concurrence with the position of those protesting police and union members on gun-control legislation, overlooked the fact that they were politicking in uniform.

For the record, I hold that politicking in uniform is disgraceful, no matter what the issue.
