PacifiCare Health Systems Inc. said it has completed the previously announced acquisition of Columbia General Life Insurance Co. of Indiana, effective May 1. With the acquisition, PacifiCare Health Systems said, it plans to develop insured, managed health-care products that will complement its existing health maintenance organization products. PacifiCare Health Systems owns and operates HMOs in California, Oregon and Oklahoma and plans to begin operations in Texas within the next few months. The company also operates an independent utilization review and claims administration unit, as well as preferred provider organization services.
