Microsemi Sets a Record With 2nd-Period Net of $1.2 Million

Microsemi Corp. said its fiscal 1986 second-quarter net income was a record $1.2 million, up 25% from $993,000 a year earlier. Revenue for the Santa Ana semiconductor manufacturer was $9.2 million for the period ended March 30, up 11% from $8.2 million.

For the six months, Microsemi posted net income of $2.5 million, up 34% from $1.9 million. Revenue for the first half of the fiscal year was $18.2 million, a 10% increase from $16.5 million.

The company said its sales order backlog at the close of the second quarter was $13.4 million, down slightly from $13.6 million at the start of the period. But Philip Frey Jr., Microsemi’s president and chief executive, said in a prepared statement that new orders from commercial and industrial customers have improved and signal “an upturn in the electronics business.”

Microsemi’s common stock rose 37 1/2 cents a share in moderate over-the-counter trading Tuesday, closing at $7.87 1/2.
