Charles Sifford filed suit in federal court Friday against the organizers of a senior golf tournament that failed to award him a new car and $100,000 as allegedly promised for making a hole-in-one.

Sifford’s suit asks for $650,000 in damages against the promoters of the Johnny Mathis Seniors Golf Classic held in March at the MountainGate County Club in Los Angeles.

The suit says the tournament organizers, BPJ Enterprises, and the Southern California Buick Dealers promised a new Buick and $100,000 cash to the first golfer in the tournament to score a hole-in-one at the par-3 15th hole.

Sifford scored the ace during the first round March 28 but was not awarded the car or the money. Organizers said at the time that the offer had been contemplated but was never actually made and that a sign concerning the offer was removed before Sifford made his ace.

Sifford accuses tournament officials of breach of contract, fraud and misrepresentation. He seeks $150,000 in general damages, plus $500,000 in punitive damages.
