Did I read correctly? Did I misunderstand? Gloria Curtis wrote a letter complaining that “a recent ‘Gone With the Wind’ reunion party” failed to invite Oscar winner Hattie McDaniel (Calendar Letters, May 4).

McDaniel would have been thrilled to attend the party, but she has a long-term commitment with her memorial park. I regret to inform Curtis that “Dearest Mammy” kicked the bucket way back in 1952.

Yes, it’s all true. But poor Gloria Curtis is totally innocent. A well-intentioned but befuddled editor inserted the word recent into her letter. Jet Fore of Los Angeles and Kathleen Link of Temple City also espied the error and leaped to their typewriters.
