The latest California poll shows that Republican Gov. George Deukmejian and Democratic Sen. Alan Cranston continue to receive high job performance ratings from voters. Both officials are running for reelection this year. Deukmejian received his best rating in three years, with 57% of the public rating his performance as good to excellent, 24% fair and 15% poor or very poor. The 57% figure is an increase of four percentage points since March. Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley, Deukmejian’s only major rival for the governorship, was not included in the poll. Cranston got a good-to-excellent rating from 37% of the voters polled, while 29% rated him fair and 15% poor or very poor. The remainder, 19%, had no opinion.
