GM Training

Share

The article (April 26) concerning General Motors’ plant in Van Nuys contained a very shocking item. It said that the State of California is offering to give GM $20 million of taxpayers’ money to retrain their employees.

Since when do taxpayers give private industry money to train their employees to be more productive?

GM is the largest corporation in America and can well afford to train its own people. If this is allowed are the taxpayers going to retrain employees of other companies too?

Tax dollars should go to retrain out-of-work people, not people who work for companies like GM. This misuse of tax dollars must be stopped before a precedent is set. Twenty million dollars will help to train and feed thousands of needy people in our state and should not feed GM’s pockets.
