So, Goodwin admits an error--good! Now it’s the President’s turn. “My country right or wrong,” means just that for me, but let us not escalate the error by again punishing the innocent, whose only crime is an affirmation of the same credo.

We should not boast of an act of violence, nor kid ourselves into believing that our own brand of terrorism was necessary, successful in purpose (whatever that was), or had a moral justification. Even more ridiculous is the flap that it’s Western Europe’s fault for not supporting our demand for economic sanctions.

It’s done! So be it. Hopefully, we can recover internationally from the shame. Henceforth many will have a tinge of guilt upon hearing a certain passage from the Marine Hymn.
