Flamemaster, a Sun Valley manufacturer of flame-retardant coatings for electrical cables, reported an 80% rise in second-quarter earnings, to $73,670, or 11 cents a share. Sales for the three months ended March 31 were down 16% from the same period last year, to $812,147.

For the first six months of its fiscal year, the company reported that net income more than doubled from the corresponding period a year earlier, to $122,703, or 18 cents a share, up from $59,247, or 8 cents a share. Sales were down 15%, to $1.6 million.

Joseph Mazin, Flamemaster’s president, said the company earned more despite lower sales because it sold more products with high profit margins.
