Nuclear Disaster in Soviet Union
The nuclear accident in Chernobyl has captured the attention of citizens and governments all over the world. The paranoia inside the U.S.S.R. and the “we-they” perceptions that prevail here and in the Soviet Union need to be replaced by a new global view.
The benefits for all of us could be tremendous if this crisis could bring about cooperation among the top scientists, physicians and other specialists from nations around the world.
We can no longer afford to consider these complex problems from a nationalistic point of view. We can no longer be preoccupied with enemies. We must see all nations as potential allies in the struggle for survival. Private citizens can urge their leaders to view the planet as a shared spaceship, and world leaders can work to establish international task forces to work for the benefit of the whole human race.
If we don’t seize this opportunity, we may all perish together because we failed to work together.
