Mariners Get First-Inning Triple Play

The Seattle Mariners recorded a triple play in the first inning of Tuesday night’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Seattle starter Mike Morgan had walked Randy Ready and Ernest Riles, the first two batters of the game.

Milwaukee designated hitter Cecil Cooper then grounded to first baseman Alvin Davis, who turned and fired to shortstop Domingo Ramos to force Riles at second. Ramos’ relay to Morgan, who was covering first base, was too late to get Cooper.

Ready had made too big a turn at third base, and Morgan threw to catcher Bob Kearney, who tagged Ready out after a brief rundown. Kearney then threw to second baseman Danny Tartabull, who completed the triple play by tagging out Cooper, who was trying to advance while Ready was in the rundown.

It was Seattle’s fourth triple play in the franchise’s 10-year history.
