Oscar Mayer’s Perry, Iowa, plant will remain open.
Union workers at the hog-slaughtering plant accepted the company’s contract terms with only slight modification. The company had threatened to close the plant permanently and eliminate 650 union jobs if the workers did not accept the company’s terms. In return, the company agreed to keep the plant open for at least 18 months and to improve medical benefits.
