U.S. District Judge Harry Claiborne arrived at a federal prison Friday to begin serving a two-year sentence for income tax evasion, the first sitting federal judge ever to go to prison.

Claiborne, 68, of Las Vegas, arrived at the minimum-security prison at Montgomery’s Maxwell Air Force Base. He has refused to resign from the bench, a lifetime appointment, and will continue to draw a $78,200 annual salary in prison unless he is impeached and convicted.
