Cook Islands Leader Bars Marcos, Duvalier

The prime minister of the Cook Islands said he turned down requests that his tiny South Pacific island nation grant sanctuary to deposed Presidents Ferdinand E. Marcos of the Philippines and Jean-Claude Duvalier of Haiti.

Sir Thomas Davis, who spoke to reporters during a stopover after fishery talks in Hawaii, said a Swiss banker made the requests on behalf of both former rulers.
