Tap Dancer John Bubbles Dies

John W. Bubbles, who created rhythm tap dancing and was George Gershwin’s choice as the original Sportin’ Life in “Porgy and Bess,” has died at age 84, it was learned today. The one-time vaudeville, Ziegfeld Follies and film star died in his Baldwin Hills home Sunday night. He had been retired since 1967 when a stroke left him partially paralyzed.
