Lawson Gets Win at Monza
Eddie Lawson led a 1-2-3 sweep of American riders in the 500-cc class race of the Grand Prix of Italy, the second event of the 1986 World Motorcycling Championship, at Monza, Italy.
Lawson, of Los Angeles, was timed in 46 minutes 29.95 seconds at an average speed of 116 m.p.h. Randy Mamola of Santa Clara was second, 5.6 seconds behind Lawson, and Mike Baldwin of Darien, Conn., finished third, 7.6 back.
The victory gives Lawson the overall lead in the world standings with 27 points for two races. Mamola and Baldwin are tied for second with 20 points each.
