SFE Shows Loss, Blames Industrywide Slowdown

SFE Technologies, a San Fernando-based electronics firm, reported a loss for its second quarter ended April 25 of $3.1 million, or 49 cents a share, versus a profit of $48,000, or 1 cent a share, for the corresponding quarter in 1985. Sales for the period were off 34%, to $11.1 million.

For the six months ended April 25, SFE reported a widened loss of $5 million, or 81 cents a share, versus a loss of $821,000, or 13 cents a share, the year before. Sales for the period were off 31%, to $21.8 million.

The company blamed the slowdown in the electronics industry. SFE makes ceramic electrical capacitors, devices that store electrical charges in computers and telecommunications equipment.
