Pregnant Woman Has Second Liver Transplant

PITTSBURGH —
A 22-year-old woman who is six months pregnant was in critical condition Monday after undergoing a second liver transplant operation within four days, hospital officials said.
The unidentified woman received the second transplant Saturday after the first liver did not function, said Dr. Thomas Starzl, head of the liver transplant program at Presbyterian-University Hospital. The case is believed to be the first such operation involving a pregnant woman.
