The company said it will pay $5.7 million to settle the case filed by a group of people who had sought employment at a company tire manufacturing plant in Tennessee. More than $5.3 million will go to 385 individuals who tried to get jobs at Goodyear’s Union City, Tenn., plant when that facility opened and began hiring in the early 1970s. The payments average about $13,920 per claimant. Another $340,670 will go into the pension plan on behalf of 54 of the claimants who since then were hired by Goodyear and qualified for pension benefits.
