Carson : Egan Faces New Charge

Share

Councilman Walter J. (Jake) Egan was charged with an additional count of mail fraud this week in an amended federal grand jury indictment that accuses him of engineering a scheme to conceal his activities with convicted political fixer W. Patrick Moriarty.

Egan, a two-term councilman, pleaded innocent Monday to the additional count of mail fraud, which relates to a political mailing sent on June 19, 1981. The indictment charges that, as part of Egan’s scheme with Moriarty and associate Richard Raymond Keith, Egan caused the mailing to be sent. The indictment does not specify who actually mailed it.

Egan previously pleaded innocent to other allegations contained in the indictment, which accused him of nine counts of mail fraud and two counts of attempted interference with commerce by extortion.
