Social Security and Sharing Sacrifice

Share

A simplistic and unfair idea, it seems to me, is his call for those in the lower end of fixed income brackets to sacrifice, while the rest of us live up our pay increases. I knew an older man who refused social security for himself and his legally blind wife, because he felt he had sufficient income from investments to live in modest comfort. Can we devise a system to decrease greed or to instill integrity?

Mr. Conine, I’ll give up four pairs of ceramic earrings, if you’ll give up your VCR, so that an older person in need may have lunch and medicine for a month.
