By saying “The Day After” is “the most powerful antiwar program ever aired” on television, Garrett gives us an unintentional insight into how far even the so-called liberal members of the television community have strayed from an understanding of the reality of television programming.
The salient points of “The Day After” as I saw them were:
1--You can survive a nuclear explosion by hiding underneath the dashboard of a car.
2--Even after your city is destroyed, you will be able to seek medical care in an undamaged, fully stocked and supplied hospital; and doctors like JoBeth Williams and Jason Robards will still be able to speak to one another in hushed, oh-so-superior, soap-opera-doctor tones while ignoring the patients lining the halls.
