Brazil’s Nelson Piquet, in a Williams-Honda, was the top qualifier for today’s Belgian Grand Prix, bumping newcomer Gerhard Berger of Austria off the pole in the last 15 minutes of a one-hour session at Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium. Piquet’s set a one-lap record with a time of 1 minute 54.331 seconds. His average speed was 135.784 m.p.h.
