U.S. National Racquetball Championships : Andrews to Play Roberts for the Men’s Open Title Today
No. 1-seeded Ed Andrews, the defending champion from Huntington Beach, defeated No. 21 Tom Montalbano of Brentwood, N.Y., 15-2, 15-0, Sunday to reach the final in the men’s open division of the 1986 U.S. National Singles Racquetball Championship.
No. 2 Andy Roberts, the 1985 world champion from Memphis, Tenn., defeated No. 6 Jack Nolan of Phoenix, Ariz., 15-11, 15-14, in the other semifinal.
In the women’s division, 1985 U.S. national singles champion Cindy Baxter of Lewistown, Pa., defeated Mona Mook of Sacramento, 15-14, 15-6, while No. 11 Treena Rasmussen, also of Sacramento, advanced after No. 10 seed Mirjam Wielheesen of Morrison, Colo., defaulted because of an ankle injury.
In the men’s wheelchair division, Chip Parmelly of Diamond Beach, Calif., defeated national singles champion Jim Leatherman of Baltimore, 15-4, 15-3.
