Namibia Rebel Foresees U.S. Troop Role in Africa
Sam Nujoma, head of the South-West Africa People’s Organization, said Monday that U.S. backing for Angolan guerrillas could lead to U.S. troop involvement in southern Africa.
Ending a five-day visit to India, Nujoma, head of the main Namibian black nationalist group fighting South African administration, denounced the Reagan Administration’s intended supply of Stinger anti-aircraft missiles to Jonas Savimbi’s guerrillas in neighboring Angola, and he added, “If America is going to supply Stinger missiles to bandits, certainly the GIs have to go to South African military bases to train (them) in the use of these weapons.”
