The Rev. Pat Robertson claimed outright victory in Michigan in the first test for potential 1988 Republican presidential contenders, but backers of Vice President George Bush disputed the claim. Jack Kemp (R-N.Y.) have individually claimed. “The effect of all this recruitment probably won’t be known until the Aug. 5 primary and probably beyond,” said state GOP spokesman Dennis Petroskey.
